Check Out the 2024 Colors of the Year!

Dec. 27, 2023 - If you're making plans to redecorate your home – or build a new one – in 2024, now is the time to begin thinking about your color palette. The new year's color choices continue the recent trend of bringing positivity into spaces.

So here are the 2024 Colors of the Year!

Riding a Blue Wave.

Although we associate the word "blue" with more negative thoughts and feelings, the actual color has a calming and positive influence on our mood with its connection to the natural world. Who doesn't relax at the thought of ocean breezes and clear blue skies? One example of the blue trend is Valspar's color of the year, Renew Blue (8003-37D). "Renew Blue elevates the everyday mood, encourages self-expression, and evokes a feeling of balance and calm, with a twist of unique spontaneity," said Sue Kim, Valspar director of color marketing, in a press release quoted by Better Homes & Gardens. Other Blue colors of 2024 include:

  • Blue Nova by Benjamin Moore
  • Thermal by C2
  • Skipping Stones by Dunn-Edwards
  • Bluebird by Krylon
  • Upward by Sherwin-Williams
  • Bay Blue by Minwax

Enjoying the Moody Hues.

In a move away from last year's bold reds, there are also several darker, moodier colors on the 2024 list. They share space with earthy, terra cotta-like shades and complimentary neutrals:

  • Peach Fuzz (1023) by Pantone
  • Limitless by Glidden
  • Cracked Pepper by Behr
  • Persimmon by HGTV Home by Sherwin-Williams
  • Ironside by Dutch Boy

"We recognize the growing desire for using darker colors throughout spaces," said Jodi Allen, global chief marketing officer at Behr Paint Company, in a press release quoted by Better Homes & Gardens. "Adding a soft black like Cracked Pepper evokes a sense of confidence and individuality that we want all of our customers to feel after completing a project."

It's about the palette.

These choices reflect overall trends toward people expecting more from their living spaces. During the pandemic, as people spent more time at home, we began finding new ways of using our spaces. We've also become more attuned to the need for mental and emotional wellness and are seeking ways to bring positivity and calm into our homes. Several companies listed above included a combination of earth tones, neutrals, and moody colors in their overall color palettes for the coming year.

It can take time for color trends to find their way into available shade fabrics, even though there are likely close matches and complementary fabric colors out there.
