(SPICELAND, IND)—When Johnny Reid took the stage to accept the 2009 Fans’ Choice Award from the Canadian Country Music Association, Draper, Inc. was there with him. Draper’s new StageScreen was used for onstage projection during the annual awards ceremony, which took place September 13, 2009 at Vancouver’s GM Place.

Toronto’s Midnite Hour Productions provided the StageScreen and other equipment for the show. Although the StageScreen was just introduced during InfoComm 2009, the new product came just in time for this show.

“We already own 12’ x 21’ and 18’ x 32’ lace and grommet surfaces that require a full truss-frame,” according to Marty Anderson of Midnite Hour, adding those screens wouldn’t have looked right in the televised production. “And, because of weight, [they would have] required motors. [All that] kind of kills the party.”

Midnite Hour’s Louis Racine says ease of assembly and modularity that allows the StageScreen to be shipped in standard size road cases helped convince Midnite Hour go with the new Draper offering. And he’s glad they did.

“The StageScreen’s packaging and modularity allows us to buy surfaces as needed, while re-using the truss elements,” according to Racine. “Now Midnite Hour is planning on changing all its projection screens to the StageScreen.”

The StageScreen’s modular truss segments assemble quickly, easily and securely end-to-end—there are no parts to unfold, and no hinges to pinch fingers. Draper’s proprietary screen attachment system works without snaps, making it easier than ever to attach the screen surface. In less than 10 minutes, two people can have a 17’ x 20’ screen fully assembled and ready to fly or attach to legs.
