Meyer Sound is the Official Sound Provider for the 53rd edition of the renowned Montreux Jazz Festival, marking 33 consecutive years of collaborative association between Meyer Sound and Switzerland’s celebrated annual event. Meyer Sound line array systems will again be in place at the three principal venues, supporting a splendidly diverse array of performances spanning all genres of jazz, pop, rock, R&B, electronic and world music.
A Meyer Sound LEO Family system will hold forth at Auditorium Stravinski, the festival’s largest venue, with the main system based around 24 LYON line array loudspeakers and buttressed on the low end by 1100-LFC and 900-LFC low frequency control elements. The system will be called on to reproduce an extraordinarily wide range of musical styles by legendary artists, ranging from Joan Baez to ZZ Top, with others including Sting, Janet Jackson, Tom Jones, Quincy Jones and Janelle Monáe.
This year’s lineup at the intimate Montreux Jazz Club includes luminaries such as Robben Ford, Bobby McFerrin, Chick Corea, Chilly Gonzales, Joe Jackson, and Amadou + Mariam with the Blind Boys of Alabama. Linear reproduction for this varied spectrum of styles is entrusted to a robust system anchored by MINA line array loudspeakers and 750-LFClow frequency control elements.
Again in 2019 the leading edge of the world’s emerging and innovative musical talents will take the stage at the Montreux Jazz Lab, with Cat Power, James Blake, SCH and Lewis Capaldi among those on the roster of buzz-generating newcomers. A LEOPARDline array system carries the full range sounds with convincing low end propelled through a total of 14 900-LFC and 1100-LFC low frequency control elements.
Meyer Sound’s newest point source loudspeaker, the revolutionary ULTRA-X40, will be deployed in fill systems at all three principal venues as well as at other locations around the festival.
For artist foldback, each stage will be appropriately equipped with MJF Series self-powered stage monitors, named in recognition of the festival’s critical role in their development. Auditorium Stravinski and the Jazz Lab are each equipped with 16 flagship MJF-212A stage monitors while the Jazz Club stage sports eight of the newer, low-profile MJF-208 monitors.
Established by the late Claude Nobs and two associates in 1967, the Montreux Jazz Festival was focused almost exclusively on jazz its early years. Although the name has not changed, in recent decades the festival has opened up to encompass nearly every musical genre outside classical.
